River Crossing Bridge Deck

Deck construction and approach works on a river crossing, built around a seasonal flood window.

Span
64 m
Deck pours
6 no.
Hold points
31 signed
Flood risk
Closed early

The brief

A replacement crossing with a hard hydrological constraint: all in-channel work had to be complete before the summer rainfall season opened.

How it was built

  1. 01Programme reversed off the flood window rather than off the start date.
  2. 02In-channel works front-loaded, approaches and surfacing pushed into the wet months.
  3. 03Falsework design and load testing signed before any deck pour.
  4. 04Independent inspection at every hold point, recorded and issued.

Outcome

In-channel works closed out four weeks ahead of the flood window. Approaches and surfacing completed the following autumn.
